In the month of September we asked you, our members, to help us gather food for the Dayton FoodBank to distribute to more than 100 feeding programs throughout the Miami Valley. And you sure stepped up!

Along with our associates, our members collected 908 pounds of food! It was such a huge success we will be hosting an additional food drive in December. We will have barrels at all five of our branches: Kettering, Centerville, Butler Township, University of Dayton campus and the VA Medical Center.

We reviewed a few of the statistics that we found on the Foodbank’s website:

  • The Foodbank provides emergency food for an estimated 70,000 different people annually
  • 40% of the members of households served by The Foodbank are children under 18 years old
  • 23% of households include at least one employed adult
  • 79% have incomes below the federal poverty level

 How can you do more?
October 17, 2015 we have a group of 20 volunteering at the FoodBank to help pack Good-To-Go Backpacks for school aged children. When we sent the request for help we got an overwhelming response. Our members filled the available slots in minutes! Thank you!

So, we decided we will go back to the FoodBank in February to give even more members a chance to serve their community.

Many of our members contacted us to say they had groups that wanted to serve. We hooked them up with The FoodBank to set up their own volunteer days that will include projects such as; backpacks, food sorting and direct distribution.

 Why do we do it?
“This is another part of the credit union’s “Do Good Dayton” initiative as we celebrate our 70th anniversary by giving back to the community that has helped us grow,” said William Burke, President and CEO of Day Air Credit Union.

It also fits right in line with our core values as a credit union including commitment to community!
