Looking back at the holiday season just ending, we saw compassion — one of the primary values and beliefs of Day Air Credit Union — on full display. Our associates gave not only monetarily but with their time, effort and talents.
University of Dayton Branch
The University of Dayton Branch associates collected hats, gloves and scarves for St. Vincent DePaul. They also participated in the annual Christmas on Campus event that partners University students with students selected through the Dayton Public Schools for an evening of games, food and gifts.
Centerville Branch
Our Centerville Branch associates participated in the Christmas Kindness program through the Church of the Incarnation. Christmas Kindness is an outreach to provide gifts to needy families and individuals. Our Centerville associates gathered gifts for a local family of four.
Dayton Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center Branch
The VA branch participated in three charitable opportunities this holiday season:
The Dayton Veterans Administration Giving Tree works with veteran families in need to provide Christmas presents for their children. The parents complete a form for each child and then a tag is created with gift ideas. The participates then select tags and shop for gifts for the child. The gifts are given to the parents to wrap and present to the child on Christmas morning. The Day Air associates at the VA location are provided gifts for 10 children this holiday season.
The Dayton Food Bank placed a collection bin in our VA branch lobby in November and December to collect canned goods and other nonperishable food items. Our associates and members completely filled the bin!
The Volunteers of America assembles care packages for veterans who are transitioning from the homeless program into housing. The care packages consist of items such as cleaning supplies, toiletries, bedding, towels, wash clothes and other basic home goods. Once veterans complete their program through the Veterans Administration, they are placed into housing of their own and these supplies are gifted to them to help the transition go as smoothly as possible.
York Commons Branch
Our York Commons branch associates donated funds to the Butler Township Police Department, which held their annual Christmas with Cops event in December. They work with the Vandalia Butler Schools to identify families who could use a little help. They select 20 kids from the schools to shop. The children buy necessities first then buy an item for themselves or their families.
Beavercreek Branch
Our Beavercreek branch is, of course, new to Day Air this year, the result of our merger with Countywide Credit Union. Our associates there showed Day Air’s giving spirit by adopting a foster family from Choices, Inc. They supplied gifts for a family of five. Choices, Inc. is committed to the safety, stability and success of youth and families.
Wilmington Pike Branch and Departments
Our departments and Wilmington Pike branch associates purchased items for the Kettering Giving Tree. The Giving Tree is organized by Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department to assist Kettering children who are in need. Kettering school guidance counselors have parents complete a form for each child, listing clothing needs and gift ideas. A unique tag is created for each child and distributed. The Day Air associates in Kettering served 20 children this year.
Of course, our associates “give” every day through the compassion, empathy and integrity they display as they serve Day Air members.
We hope you will join us through 2017 in displaying compassion by giving to others.
